December Flowers Photo of the Day

Flowers

When leaves are falling off from trees around the world, we are blessed with December flowers in out backyard in Honolulu.

Photo of the day: Sunflowers

Sunflowers

No interesting composition but I just love sunflowers. Taken yesterday at the KCC Honolulu Farmers Market near Diamond Head. Must be a Tour de France thing!

Photo of the day: Sign at the Farmers Market

I don't know why but this sign caught my eye and I like it. Kiba Cafe today at the KCC Honolulu Farmers Market. Good food too!

Photo of the Day Remember These?

Pda

I was one of the last holdouts insisting on a basic cell phone because I had this Palm Device. I used this with a diabetes app (or whatever it was called back then) to lose 40 pounds and bring my diabetes into better control. RIP my Palm Life Drive PDA.

Picture of the Day. Pa'i'ai

Paiai_bw

I love things Hawaiian. Kalo (taro) always catches my eye, but today at Whole Foods in Kahala Mall, they were selling fresh pa'i'ai. This is not machine made poi but fresh taro hand processed by traditional Hawaiian methods into pa'i'ai by Mana Ai in Kaneohe. Their website explains better than I can http://www.manaai.com/?page_id=13 . The picture is not of the pa'i'ai itself but the beautiful presentation wrapped in ti leaves and a pohaku ku'i'ai sometimes nicknamed poi pounder.

I'm going to start posting pictures again and will attempt another photo project 365 again in from January 1, 2012. Wish me luck!

Sidewalk flower

Curtis_st_flower_bw

Ok maybe it's not a flower but a fruit or seed pod perhaps. On my walk from the parking structure to work, I've always seen these on the sidewalk and thought it would make for a nice picture. But I felt rather silly kneeling down with my camera to get the shot. So this day, no one was looking...I think!

Modern Day Fossil

Fossil_bw

I saw this imprint of a leaf on the sidewalk. I thought of it as a modern day fossil. My 6 year old son is into dinosaurs so fossils are a big thing at home!

So it's not Pavoratti!

Bulbul

Yesterday I posted on Facebook about a bird I hear singing every morning. I thought it was a cardinal, sounds so pretty. This morning I heard that bird again, so I went out back to look. I could see it on the telephone post, but it was hard to see because I was looking at a silhouette backlit by the morning sky. But the profile did not look like a cardinal. When he flew I recognized it, it was a darn bulbul! Yeah those pests that eats flower buds and Hawaiian chili peppers from your yard.

Then I remembered hearing a nice songbird up at the Wa`ahila Ridge hiking trail when we took our son hiking for a school project. I still had a picture of that bird as it was sitting in a tree. Yup, looks like the same kinda bird.

So instead of Pavoratti singing at the Met we had a dude singing in the shower. A bit of a let down, but it's stil musinc though...

  Isn't it?

Yoga mats

I've probably walked past this many times and not noticed. But now that I'm learning a little bit of yoga, these yoga mats hanging in the sun to dry caught my eye. They reminded me of the futons hanging on the railings all over Japan. I never knew you could get yoga mats with cool designs on them. I could not get the composition in I wanted in the photo, I was in a rush and I only had my point and shoot camera. I tried!
